Emergency Pack

What is an emergency pack?

Emergency packs are designed to illuminate even when mains power is lost, enabling occupants to escape in the event of an emergency which could cause a power cut, such as a fire.  We use high quality emergency components, which comply with current emergency lighting legislation and conform to CE standards.  The kits include a controller, additional LED, and rechargeable battery pack.  These are designed to provide emergency illumination for 3 hours.

Installation & Use

In the event of a power loss, the emergency pack will activate the main GU10 lamp.  Please note that GU10 lamps fitted must not exceed 6w and must be non-dimmable.  

The included pre-wired status LED must also be installed alongside the main fitting.  This is in the form of a discreet white metal surface mounted insert that must be located within 400mm from the centre of the main downlight.  This provides visual feedback via a 5mm green LED, indicating that the emergency light is functional.

When testing the emergency function and following activation of emergency mode, the permanent live must be renewed within 24 hours.   This is to avoid over discharge to the battery which may cause permanent damage to the battery pack.

All emergency packs are offered with a 1 year warranty on battery packs and a 2 year warranty on inverters and other components.

The regulations

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, which came into force in October 2006, charges the responsible person of non-domestic premises and the common areas of a House in Multiple Occupancy (eg. Landlords and facilities managers) with the safety of everyone in the building, whether working, visiting or living there. This duty of care includes the provision of emergency lighting.  Article 14 (2) (h) of the RRFSO states:

“Emergency routes and exists requiring illumination must be provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in the case of failure of their normal lighting."  "It is particularly important the staircase and escape route are adequately lit as people may be in a state of distress, panic or disorientation when abruptly woken during a fire. This applies especially during the night."

The TF11 is a trimless plaster downlight with an elliptical opening, leading to a deep asymmetrical recess for glare free, soft ambient lighting. The lamp angle is 45 degrees which allows a light wash on nearby vertical walls for illumination of pictures or artworks. See also model TF15 as a symmetrically angled style match.

When installed, the bond between luminaire and wall/ceiling is completely trimless and seamless and not prone to hair line cracking along the installation lines. This is achieved by using a material with a rate of expansion and contraction matching that of gypsum plaster. This allows for an invisible interface between the fitting and ceiling surface, so the end result looks as though its shape has been cast directly into the wall/ceiling surface rather than added retrospectively. The definition and quality of finish on these fittings is unparalleled in any other material and is far superior to metal fittings. They are also suitable for painting with standard emulsion paint.

This fitting is hand crafted using a modern plaster composite material, designed to be more durable and tolerant to changes in heat and moisture content, whilst simultaneously providing a superior finish. After the plaster is poured and cured in rubber moulds, each fitting is then painstakingly hand finished to our exacting standards. Each exterior surface is left perfectly smooth, with all edges clean and crisp.
